Basically, Abrasives are divided into following three types

Coated Abrasives

Coated Abrasives is a type of Abrasives. Coated abrasives are mostly used in grinding wheels, abrasive sticks or stones. Grinding wheels are used in many applications and industries, while abrasive stones or sticks are used for honing internal or external surfaces and sharpening edges. Coated abrasives is a group of grains of resin, rubber, glass, or other binders. In coated abrasives have different bond types. To remove out surface materials like ceramics, metal, plastics, glass, and paint, coated abrasives are used.

Bonded Abrasives

In Bonded abrasives, the abrasive grains held together in a matrix. bonded abrasives grinding wheels are flat in shape. In the other wheels have a cup or bowl shape, depressed center, tapered body, and donut or ring shape. They used to remove surface materials like glass, plastics, metal, ceramics, and paint.
With Grit size, we can measure the abrasive grains in the matrix. Grits or Coarse grains take out large amounts of material. Medium grains remove scanty material. The Fine grits are apt for light finishing and cutting and it also improves the finishing.
